3 x NV Champagne Claude Cazals Cuvée Carte Or (750ml), Provenance: Restaurant Mosaic Wine Cellar Collection
Champagne Claude Cazals is run by the ebullient Delphine Cazals; her house is attached to the winery, and Delphine’s mother lives in the château inside the Clos de Cazals. The estate was founded in 1897 by Ernest Cazals, a cooper from the south of France. He was Catalan, hence the name, same as the renowned cellist, Pablo Casals. He moved to Champagne where he met his wife, and together they created a Champagne house in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Since then, three generations of wine-growers – including Delphine’s father Claude Cazals, who invented the gyropalette in 1969 – have followed each other at the head of the winery. This small family estate has the status of RM (Récoltant Manipulant) and produces around 5500 cases per year.
‘Chardonnay. So much more development than the Laithwaite's English wines shown alongside! Well bought and a decent price for a biscuity champagne from Le Mesnil. Under-priced in fact!’ - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16/20 (May 2017)
‘Aromas of baked pineapple cede to a delightful mousse on the palate, with gentle acidity propelling notes of butter biscuit, brioche and lemon cake. Inviting, and fairly long.’ - Simon Field MW, Decanter.com, 91/100 (Jul 2018)
‘It's showing well, offering up aromas of ripe citrus, toasted brioche, white flowers and honeycomb. Medium to full-bodied, it's fleshy, lively and energetic, with good depth at the core, a fine mousse and a nicely defined finish.’ - William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Apr 2020)
