There is an innate and relatable sense of intimacy in Anton Smit’s sculptures. His exploration of movement within his artworks makes it possible to render a range of indistinguishable emotions such as anguish and suffering. Essentially, Smit uses his artwork to explore making the invisible, visible. He has been widely recognized for his large-scale sculptures of heads, masks, stretching figures, hands and nudes whilst using an array of mediums such as steel, metal and fiber glass. As an artist, Smit is a stern believer that perseverance in the face of animosity is not only essential in life but a necessary sentiment to articulate through the artistic process.
