2010 A.A. Badenhorst Family Wines Family Red Shiraz, Grenache, Cinsault, Tinta Barocca
x 6 bottles 750ml
PLEASE NOTE THIS WINE IS IN JOHANNESBURG
A.A. Badenhorst Family Wines are grown, made and matured on Kalmoesfontein farm. The property is owned by cousins Hein and Adi Badenhorst, who purchased and restored a neglected cellar on the farm last used in the 1930’s to make wines in a traditional manner. All wines are naturally fermented, dry farmed, vegan and IPW certified sustainable.
The Shiraz and supporting varieties, usually Cinsault, Grenache, and Tinta Barocca, are all hand harvested on the same day. The whole bunches are foot stomped to start fermentation; the destemmed grapes are started in both concrete and large wooden vats. Maturation takes about 16 months in large and then larger casks and vats. Black cherries, liquorice, pepper.
"Despite its age, this has the depth, concentration and structure to continue to age well through 2022. A blend of Shiraz Grenache Cinsault and Tinta Barocca, there's a pure character to the wine—herbal notes of minty fynbos, bark and freshly tilled soil are supported by vibrant plum, raspberry and cherry. There's a minerally graphite seam to the full-bodied palate, ending on lush notes of black pepper, bittersweet cocoa and espresso." - 94/100, Wine Enthusiast
