Weingut Clemens Busch is a Biodynamic estate in the picturesque town of Pünderich. Clemens is the 5th-generation winemaker at his family estate and began using organic practices in 1984. Later a pioneer in biodynamics, Clemens Busch is now a role model for natural, but precise German winemaking. Unlike most of the Mosel region, however, Clemens focuses on dry, elegant Rieslings that express the complex terroir of this historic region. Their unique soils in the town of Pündericherallow them to produce many iterations of the Riesling grape. Clemens Busch is based on the 3 types of slate – red, blue and grey – each imparting different characteristics and styling.
The parcel Falkenlay lies between Fahrlay and Rothenpfad. The soil here runs deeper and is defined by gray slate. This area is regarded by the older winemakers to be the “filet mignon” of the Marienburg. A very special selection of healthy grapes is grown in the oldest part of the Falkenlay vineyard, which is called the Raffes. This selection creates the densest and most concentrated wine of our winery each year, the Marienburg Raffes. Most wines are fermented in traditional, large-format, 1000-liter "fuder" oak barrels with indigenous yeasts. Wine movements are made according to the lunar phases and the wines are made without additives.
Organic, biodynamic, vegan and genuinely special, this is a wine that all wine lovers will enjoy and any Riesling aficionado should not miss.
