The game is known by many different names throughout the continent, for example Ayo in Kenya, Boa in Nigeria and mancala throughout the diaspora, indicating that the game is widely known and played. According to the Savannah African Art Museum, "archaeological and historical evidence dates Mancala to the year 700 AD in East Africa." and even earlier in other middle eastern and African countries" (https//end. wikipedia.org>wiki>mancala). It is still widely played on modern boards following the old pattern.
