A ZULU HEADREST, 1940's, CARVED BY MBHEKENI MZOLO
once popular in the KwaMajozi area of Msinga for his block headrests skilfully decorated with geometric checkerboard patterns
Some Mzolo headrests also included stylised ihawu (shield) and umakoti (married woman) motifs. They are rare, but this one extremely so as it has three omakoti (pl) motifs
