A FIRE GILT BRONZE VAJRASATTAVA AND VAJRATOPA IN YAB YUM

This Tibetan statue depicts the cosmic union, merging and harmonizing of opposite forces. Yab Yum is a Tibetan word that literally translates to "father- and mother". In the Yabu Yum position, a male deity is depicted in sexual union with his female consort. The male represents compassion and skilfull means, the female represents insight and wisdom. This finely cast Yab Yum statue is 23 centimeter high, 19 centimeter wide and 15 cm deep (excluding wooden base). It is made in Tibet in the first half of the 20th century.
