Quinta do Vallado Adelaide Tinto Douro 2012 x1 750ml bottle(s)
Quinta do Vallado is a historic Port wine producer of the Douro Valley. Established in 1716, the quinta extends along both banks of the Douro River and is one of the oldest quintas of the region. The estate was founded by Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira who was a famous Potugese business woman for the Port industry. She vocally fought against the lack of government support for the viticultural industry and was known for her devotion and care for the farm workers within the industry. It remains family owned today.
Bottled in honor of Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, this is a unique wine, made from a vineyard in Rio Torto mostly planted in the 1940s, traditionally planted as a field blend of more than 30 grape varieties. The soil is predominantly schist (black slate). These vines, planted in a density of 7,000 vines per hectare, yield on average 400g per plant, equivalent to 2,8 tons per hectare. This puts these vines amongst the lowest yielding per hectare in the world. A very rare wine, only bottled in exceptional years, and in very small quantities (approximately 4000 bottles).
