The heavily potted plate finely painted and gilded with Benzaiten, goddess of music and wisdom seated beside large tree peonies on the shores of a lake playing a lute, biwa, her serene face beneath an elaborate chignon before a large halo encircled by a billowing sash, her attendant reaching towards a coiling dragon approaching above roiling waves, the dragon carrying a figure holding a small pagoda, all enclosed within a gilded brocade-diaper band on a cobalt ground, the reverse inscribed Ryuun Tomiyama-zo
