PLEASE NOTE THIS WINE IS IN JOHANNESBURG
Unquestionably one of the greatest names in Alsace, the Trimbach family, based in the picturesque town of Ribeauvillé, has been involved in making wine since 1626. Grapes are de-stemmed, and then undergo a gentle pneumatic pressing followed by an 8 day cold maceration to extract color and fruit. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The Pinot Noirs are the only Trimbach wines which undergo malolactic fermentation (in tank) and they are bottled after 3 months aging in stainless steel tanks.

Maison Trimbach’s vineyards are all situated around Ribeauville (Ribeauville, Hunawihr, Bergheim, Rorschwihr, Riquewihr and Mittlewihr). They benefit from the unique Alsatian microclimate, thanks to the Vosges Mountains protection, which preserves the plain from the rain. The vineyards were planted on the Ribeauville’s fault line that fractured 50 million years ago between the Vosges Mountain range and the Black Forest offering a mosaic of terroirs including the complex calcareous limestone and bio-degraded seashell fossils called “Muschelkalk.” Some of the Pinot Noir vineyards integrate stony reddish soils with some iron content.

The grapes are harvested from 7 different vineyards across the Alsace region, resulting in a unique and sophisticated wine. Pinot Noir Réserve is from Trimbach’s own vineyards and those of their growers with the age of 40+ years old. The vineyards are located in the southern part of Alsace: Rodern and St Hippolyte, some based on granite, some on sandstone, and some from marl and limestone soils. This wine represents the unique mosaic of soils of our region.
