2011 Mary Delany Botanica Chenin Blanc (750ml) x 3 bottles- Provenance: Restaurant Mosaic Wine Cellar Collection
Botanica Wines was founded in 2009 by owner and self-taught winemaker Ginny Povall, an intrepid American who fell in love with the beautiful Cape winelands, purchased Protea Heights farm in Stellenbosch’s Devon Valley and relocated to the southern tip of Africa in 2008. The grapes for this wine come from a vineyard high in the mountains of Clanwilliam, 25 miles from the sea at 1600ft elevation. Dry farmed, as there is no longer any water available, these 50 +/- year old vines produce a mere 2.5 tons per hectare. With its beautiful label of a botanical collage created by artist Mary Delany in the late 1700’s (Ginny was fortunate enough to obtain a license to use a few of Delany’s collages for her wines) 50% of the wine was fermented in 400 litre French oak barrels and later matured for several months in similar oak. This is Ginny’s third vintage and she feels it is the best one so far, so no surprise then that the wine was awarded 5 stars in the 2013 John Platter Guide!
