First edition of a rare German mining book and important contribution to the development of mining. This book by the Mansfeld mining official and surveyor G. Voigtel (1658-1714) means a very significant advance, in that trigonometry is used systematically for the first time. Voigtel gives an arithmetic-geometric introduction, as it was probably indispensable for the miner of that time, explains in particular the nature and use of the sine tables, deals with the properties of the magnetic needle, gives the entire terminology and teaches the use of the instruments, which he used for the parts has been substantially improved; even the laying of water pipes in the pits is described in detail. Above all, however, a special chapter pays attention to the border disputes that so easily arise between miners of neighbouring mines and shows in what way the art of marking the above-ground boundaries also allowed to be recognized underground.
