A CHINESE WHITE SLIP-DECORATED BLUE GROUND "CHRYSANTHEMUM" SWATOW, ZHANGZHOU, BOWL, MING DYNASTY, WANLI PERIOD, 1572 - 1620
The deep bowl painted to the centre with three chrysanthemums amongst feathery foliage beneath a full moon and clouds, the cavetto painted with gnarled branches issuing a multitude of blossoms amongst strap-shaped leaves divided by lotus blooms, the rim with further blossoms amongst scrolling tendrils, the raised white slip reserved on a lavender-blue ground, the overglaze with brown striations, extensive fritting, discoloured hairline crack, glaze impurities
