2014 Keermont Steepside Syrah
x 6 bottles 750ml
PLEASE NOTE THIS WINE IS IN JOHANNESBURG
The Steepside Syrah owes its names to the vines planted on the vertiginous slopes of the Helderberg Mountain at an elevation of around 300 meters. A special selection is made from small parcels and the wine is fermented in open-top fermenters before maturation in used French barrels for 20 months. It has a very precise bouquet with complex wild strawberry, raspberry and mineral notes that are tightly wound at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, crisp acidity and a broody but compelling finish that will need a couple of years to unfold. Enjoy this Cornas-style Syrah from 2018.
Planted in 2005 on the steep mid slopes of the Helderberg Mountain range, Steepside Syrah sits at an elevation of 300m. Vines grow in rich red clay loam soils with high levels of iron and quartzite originating from the peaks above. The combination of these deep granitic soils and the intensity of the sunshine on the North facing ridge allows the vineyard to produce wines with power and structure, while the spicy herbal aromatics can be attributed to the elevation and the pristine fynbos flora that surround it.
Only 1475 bottles were produced.
