Amadlozi Artwork Continues to Rise

November 18, 2014 - Hot on the heels of a R9,6 million sale of Amadlozi Group artworks in Johannesburg, leading South African auction house Stephan Welz & Co. will be offering a number of important works from artists in this groundbreaking group from the 1960s, including a rare and exceptional 11-panel work from Cecil Skotnes, which was commissioned in the late 1960s for a government building. The Progression is valued at R1,3 – 1,7 million, and is one of the works to be auctioned in the Fine Art and Collectables Auction in Johannesburg on Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 November.

November 13, 2014 - The streets of Soweto and beyond could be paved with gold for the buyer of a 1950 Morris Minor 1000 with license registration 'SOWETO 1 GP' and accompanying registered trademark of the same name. The car with registration and trademark, which will be auctioned by Stephan Welz & Co. in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 25 November, is valued at R880 000 – R1 000 000.

November 7, 2014 - Conrad Botes was born in 1969 in Ladismith, Western Cape, and lives in Cape Town. He has an MA Fine Arts from the University of Stellensbosch and a Diploma in Second Phase Illustration from the Koninklijke Akademie voor Beeldende Kunsten, Den Haag, Netherlands. His sharp satire, frequently directed at South African society, politics and religion, is channeled into both his painting and printmaking, and his comics, which have been published in the Bitterkomix series. He has had various solo exhibitions, numerous group exhibitions locally and abroad and has won several awards, including the 2004 ABSA L’Atelier.
